Comcast to increase broadband speed
Comcast will soon increase speeds on its different tiers of broadband service, according to Broadband Reports . The industry Web site reports that some users are being told by Comcast technicians that higher speeds should appear within a month or two. Download speeds could reach 6mbps for downloads and 384kbps for uploads. The next tier of service will likely be 8mbps for downloads and 768kbps for uploads. Still, no word whether or not the cable giant will match Cox's 15mbps and Adelphia's 16mbps download speeds, Broadband Reports said.
Cable companies seem to be increasing speeds on service in areas where they face competition from Verizon's FiOS service , which uses fiber connections into people's homes to deliver high speed data, video and voice services.
